From 2019 to 2025, Tim was Chief Compliance Officer at BHP Group Limited, one of the world’s largest mining companies. Tim led a global team of 40+ lawyers and compliance professionals through a period of growth in increasingly complex operating environments, reporting regularly to the Risk & Audit Committee of the BHP Board. Tim’s team implemented a compliance program covering multiple risks including anti-corruption, trade sanctions, export controls, supply chain human rights, competition law, market conduct and data privacy.
Prior to this, Tim was Global Ethics & Compliance Manager at Orica Ltd, the world’s largest provider of commercial explosives and blasting services, operating in over 100 countries. Tim oversaw the rapid design and implementation of enhanced anti-corruption, trade sanctions and export controls compliance measures, leading a team of lawyers and compliance professionals.
Before Orica, Tim was a lawyer at BHP, advising on the design and implementation of BHP’s enhanced anti-corruption compliance program, reporting to the US Securities & Exchange Commission (as required by the order resolving the SEC’s investigation relating to BHP) and working with front line teams to manage corruption risks in numerous countries in Africa, SE Asia and South America.
Tim previously practised at Linklaters LLP in London, advising on multinational corruption and fraud investigations and commercial litigation after beginning his career in 2000 at major law firms in Melbourne & Sydney.
Tim was a director of Transparency International Australia until 2018. He is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.

From 2013 until early 2026, Michael held senior in-house Compliance lawyer roles in Woodside Energy Group Ltd, a global energy company, and BHP Group Limited, one of the world’s largest mining companies. In these roles, Michael and lawyers in teams he led successfully provided fit for purpose, trusted legal advice and support to key business stakeholders on a range of anti-corruption, trade sanctions, probity, conflicts of interest and other business integrity risks and mitigations across the resources value chain, frequently advising senior C-suite executives.
Michael has extensive experience in understanding and addressing compliance-related risks in operated and non-operated assets and interests, corporate growth and transactional and community investment activities globally, with particular focus on high risk third parties and activities relating to countries in North and South America, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He has advised on and overseen the design and maintenance of fit for purpose compliance programs, controls and policies, particularly in the areas of anti-corruption and whistleblower protections. He has also conducted and directed effective cross-border investigations of alleged compliance-related misconduct and advised on the management of sensitive matters arising from or relating to misconduct allegations or investigations.
As with Tim, before moving in-house Michael practised at Linklaters LLP in London, focusing on major cross-border litigation, contentious commercial advisory and fraud and regulatory investigation (including anti-corruption) work. His earlier private practice career also included practising in similar disciplines at other major global law firms in Brisbane and London.
Michael is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland, the High Court of Australia and the Senior Courts of England & Wales. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Queensland.
